Easy Capet Stain Removal Guide

How to Remove Stains From Kids Rugs

Let's face it; no matter how careful you are at home, carpet and rug stains are inevitable.

..............Whether your beloved Fido makes a mess, or your children decide to try their artwork on a softer palette, you are bound to need some serious stain removal power at some point in your day-to-day living.

Your best bet when it comes to removing stains is to nip them in the bud.

By taking care of stains immediately, your chances of permanent damage to your carpet are minimal to none.

And chances are, you won't need any special or expensive products to take care of unexpected spots.

Most of these can be treated with things that you probably already have on hand, such as white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, laundry stain remover, and many other things.

In the case of stubborn stains, there are a number of commercial products available at your local grocery or hardware store that are designed specifically for carpet stain removal.

Stain removal does not need to be a major expense.  Here are some simple steps that you can take when it comes to a few common household carpet stains:

Pet Stains

Option #1: Mix one teaspoon of clear ammonia with one half cup of cold water.  You can apply this solution either in a spray bottle, or directly onto the carpet fibers.  Just be careful not to soak the backing.

After applying, use a clean, dry rag or paper towels (white ones are best, to avoid color transfer) to blot the excess liquid, and allow to completely air dry.

Option #2: Make a solution using either hand soap or dish soap.  Mix one-quarter teaspoon of detergent to one quart of cold water.  Just make sure your detergent does not contain bleach or lanolin.  The solution can be applied the same way as an ammonia solution.

Option #3: If you have access to a steam cleaner, this method will probably produce the best results.  Make sure you thoroughly air-dry the area afterwards.

Ink Stains

Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol is a very effective treatment for ink stains.  Pour a small amount directly onto the stain, and then blot with a clean, dry rag or paper towel (once again, white ones are best) until the stain is removed.

Rubbing will increase the chances that the stain will spread, so take the time to blot carefully.

Beer or wine stains

Wait! You certainly don't expert to find beer and wine stains on kid's rugs.  But you may have to contend with them in other parts of the house, so...

Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and cold water.  Apply mixture with a spray bottle, and allow it to penetrate for 10-15 minutes.  With a sponge, gently rub the stain.  Afterwards, rinse the area with warm water.

Brush the carpet back into its natural pile, and cover the area with a layer of white paper towels.  Weight the paper towels, and allow to sit until the area is completely dry.

And there you have a quick guide to removing common run and carpet stains.
